Student services

This office provides administrative services to departments, programs, centers, and students in the School of Literatures, Cultures & Linguistics, as well as to students from other departments who are enrolled in classes taught by SLCL faculty and teaching assistants.

Undergraduate student services

• Primary contact for inquiries from prospective/current undergraduate students
• Primary SLCL undergraduate liaison with LAS and other departmental advisors
• Primary contact for SLCL faculty and staff and campus personnel in regard to undergraduate student services
• Coordinator of appointments for students with assigned academic advisors
• Primary contact for undergraduate foreign language placement/proficiency campus-wide exams
• Primary contact for Frances Scheidel Scholarship process
• Participates in the maintenance and archival of undergraduate student records

Graduate student services

• Admits new and matriculating graduate students
• Facilitates written and oral exams, including prelims and dissertation/thesis defenses
• Communicates academic regulations, processes, and deadlines to students and faculty
• Processes graduate petitions, degree certifications, dissertation/thesis deposits, and fellowships
• Serves as primary graduate liaison with the Graduate College and the Office of the Registrar
• Primarily responsible for maintenance and archival of graduate student records
• Maintains list of departmental directors of graduate studies (DGSs)
