The Humanities Research Institute has awarded its annual faculty and graduate student fellowships to seven faculty members and seven graduate students from across campus for the 2022-23 academic year. HRI also announced the 2022-23 Mellon pre-doctoral fellow in public humanities and the 2022 summer faculty research fellows.
Two SLCL students and one faculty member were among this year’s recipients:
HRI Campus Fellows—Un/Doing
These fellowships are granted to Illinois faculty and graduate students who spend the year engaged in research and writing. This year’s theme is “Un/Doing.”
French and Italian graduate student Amanda Smith, “21st Century Black Beauty Resistance: Collectivism, Individuality, and In/Visibility in Black French Women’s Body and Hair Representations”
HRI Mellon Pre-Doctoral Public Humanities Fellow
This fellowship is an opportunity for a doctoral student in the humanities to be in residence with HRI’s Odyssey Project and to pursue a public humanities-related project under the guidance of a designated faculty mentor.
