Florencia Henshaw, director of advanced Spanish in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese, has been selected for two prestigious service and teaching awards.

Henshaw is the recipient of the 2022 Distinguished Service Award in the category of Exemplary Teaching and Training, granted by the Illinois Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ICTFL).

This award recognizes educators whose exemplary teaching has provided inspiration to large numbers of foreign language students or teachers. This category includes those who have distinguished themselves in teacher education and as in-service trainers, as well as in the actual teaching of languages and cultures.

Henshaw has also been selected as the recipient of the Excellence in Teacher Development Award, granted by the ACTFL Teacher Development Special Interest Group and announced at this year’s ACTFL conference in Boston. This prestigious national award recognizes a professional in the field of world language teacher development who demonstrates exceptional leadership in their context, community, and the profession at large.
